James Earl Dupree
On Monday, February 20, 2023, the Lord called his child James Earl Dupree to glory. He was a resident of Temple Hills, Maryland and Greenville, North Carolina.
JayD (aka Truck, Jay, JD, Dupree, James Earl) was born on August 10, 1949 in Norfolk, Virginia to his mother Mamie Lee Foreman. He was raised in Farmville, NC by his parents Bessie and David Dupree. JayD graduated in 1968 from H. B. Suggs High School in Farmville, NC and attended Wilson Technical Community College in Wilson, NC. He served honorably in the United States Air Force achieving the rank of Airman. He served as a police officer in Greenville, NC and was a lifelong motorcoach operator. His most recent job was as a driver for East Carolina University in Greenville, NC.
JayD loved travel and being on the open road—whether in a car, behind the wheel of a bus, or on his motorcycle—he was always on the go. Family and friends could be assured that if he was in your area, he was going to stop by and say hi! He was a “talker” and always had a joke or funny story. He was known as a “jokester” and could always keep family and friends in stitches, especially during a Spades game.
JayD is survived by his wife of 29 years, Carla Michaela Crayton Dupree of Temple Hills, MD; six children: Gary Barrett of Greenville, NC, Michael Hopkins of Houston, TX, James Dupree, Jr. (wife, Kimberly) of Felton, Delaware, Tasha Williams of Raleigh, NC, Tannya Brown (husband, Michael) of Durham, NC, and Courtney Dupree (partner, Mazzay) of Temple Hills, MD; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, 5 sisters, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and those he lovingly called his own. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters Freda Foreman, Joyce Foreman Jones, and his granddaughter, Tameka Williams.
JayD touched so many people and will be missed dearly by all who loved and cared for him.
Mr. James Dupree Sr. quietly answered the call to come home to glory on Monday.
